It's like a cross between Miami and Beijing, or actually it's pretty similar to San Jose, Costa Rica. I guess if you realize that every intersection is a free-for-all it's pretty predictable, right? I'm not complaining, I actually kind of like it.
So here are some pictures from my first walk to get some cash, a razor and some pasta de dientes and to see what this place looks like I the daytime.
There are probably better places to put this note but the whole taxi thing when I landed was over the top. It's like getting thrown into a vat of carp. Luckily I didn't match the profile of their normal visitor so while a woman who was schilling her tours had a driver by an ear, I quickly asked him "cuanto cuesta?" He was caught so much off guard he blurted out the cheapest fair I heard that night (it was 70 soles, or about $22). A little higher than I had read, but the posts I saw were older, I was tired and my phone battery was dying. In comparison, my arranged ride back was $20, a figure I had seen on another hostel wall. In the grand scheme of things this was acceptable.
